Happy New Year everybody!
Well, our holidays were busy, but good. Thanksgiving is normally a nice relaxing holiday, but for me this year it was not. Brad gets that whole week off so we thought it would be nice to take Brad and the boys up to his parent's house to spend the week. I was glad that they got to spend that time, but I was pretty miserable without them. I took them up on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, and then I drove back the next day because I had to be to work that Tuesday. I came back to a very empty house. I spent the evenings that week working on decorating the house for Christmas because I needed to stay busy so I wouldn't get too depressed. I really missed Brad and the boys. I worked that Tuesday and Wednesday, and then in stop-and-go rush hour traffic I drove up I-35 with a semi's grill in my rearview mirror to get back to Brad's parents' house. I was so stressed out and tense by the time I got there it took me forever to relax. The next day was good because we got to see the family. We even got to go on a date the next day with Brad's sister Anita and her husband Jeff. We had a good time even though we missed out on Australia. By the time we got home I was exhausted and tired of travelling. We got to spend some good time at home for a while, and then there was Christmas. We transitioned the boys into a double bed, and that has been interesting. I spent all day on Christmas Eve getting ready for our trip. I was pretty stressed out. The next morning we had a great time opening presents. Ethan really got into it this year. It was a lot of fun. Then we packed up and went to Brad's parents' house for their Christmas. After the kids opened their presents the adults did our Chinese gift exchange, and had a lot of fun stealing from each other. The next morning we left from there to go to my parents' house in NM. I know, a lot of travelling. Just wait. We drove all day, and spend the next couple of days there, and my sister was there so we had our Christmas. That Saturday morning we woke up to snow on the ground. It was great. We played in the snow for quite a while. The next Monday we got to have a playdate with one of my best friends from high school, Amber. We played at the playground, and had a picnic. That evening we went on a double date with Amber and her husband Matt. We had a really great visit. I wish we lived closer so we could see each other more often. Tuesday we went to Whitesands National Monument, and went sledding since there wasn't much snow in the mountains. We all had a great time, especially the boys. Wednesday was spent at the house, and packing for the trip to a half-way point in Lubbock. We stayed overnight there and got to see some Ed and Brandee, good friends from Wayland. Our kids had a great time playing together. We drove from there back to Brad's folks' house for the weekend since we didn't get to spend much time with them at Christmas. I was so glad to get back home that Sunday. Brad had to leave the next day for a Christian Camp conference. I was glad to not have to go anywhere anytime soon. Needless to say our Christmas break was full of good visits with family, but every year at this time of the year I wish someone would invent the teleporter so we wouldn't have to be on the road so long. We had a summer staff reunion this weekend. It was great to see friends from all over, and look forward to seeing most of them again this summer. Today was a great day too. Brad and I went shopping for living room furniture, and found some good possibilities. After that we met some good friends at Texas de Brazil in Fort Worth for an amazing dining experience and some great fellowship. We were so full that we decided to walk around and shop in downtown Fort Worth. We had a great night celebrating the New Year with them. Things will start picking up at work pretty soon, and we look forward to it.
I am so thankful for all that God has blessed us with. We had a pretty healthy year this year. The boys are growing tall and their individual personalities are blossoming. Ben is very much a play leader and organizer. He is very rules oriented, very focused, and loves to be around people and be outside (although he must stay clean). He has an amazing memory, and loves to tell jokes now too. Ethan is a curious, mischevious little man. He is all about playing with everything any way he wants, which drives Ben crazy at times. He has likes people, but loves his favorite people. He prefers to play inside, and doesn't mind getting dirty. They both make us laugh for different reasons, and we love them so much. Brad is enjoying his new position, and is back into gaming again. He even gets to play online with his brother and brother-in-law and some friends every once in a while. I have been enjoying working with the guests out here. Every once in a while I wish I were home with the boys, but this is where I need to be right now. We have a good home, and have everything we need. 2008 was a good year, and we look forward to what 2009 has for us.
